The Telegraph has interesting piece (access here) about a Broadway Hotel in Blackpool (England) that apparently charges £100 per negative TripAdvisor review on guests’ credit cards. Telegraph Hotel guests ‘fined’ for leaving bad review on TripAdvisor

There was recently the case with a small hotel in Hudson that was doing the same but charging $500 instead (read more here)!

Here are some highlights from the Telegraph piece:

A couple have been “fined” £100 by a Blackpool hotel they described as a “rotten stinking hovel” on travel review website TripAdvisor.

Tony and Jan Jenkinson posted the negative comments after being unimpressed with the one night they spent at the Broadway Hotel.

The couple, from Whitehaven, later found £100 charged to their credit card. The hotel said its policy was to charge for “bad” reviews.

When the couple queried the surcharge, the hotel’s manager said they had a ‘no bad review policy’ in their terms and conditions.

The policy stated: “Despite the fact that repeat customers and couples love our hotel, your friends and family may not. For every bad review left on any website, the group organiser will be charged a maximum £100 per review”.

The managers of these hotel must leave on different planet if you have a look at the recent TripAdvisor reviews (access the reviews here):

Conclusion

The hotel is ranked at 858 of 894 B&B in Blackpool and the reviews are really really bad. If you choose this hotel, you really have to blame yourself for not checking the state of the property.

Why wouldn’t the owners spend some cash to upgrade the property rather than whining about justified reviews?
